About us

Our friendly and informal group meet on the second Tuesday of each month from September to June. Since resuming activities last November our membership has grown steadily to 55 with a significant number being new members. Both indoor and outdoor activities are well supported. There is a strong communal feel of enjoying birds and nature in companionship with like minded people.  We are run by volunteers and everyone is welcome from beginner to expert. Just come along and enjoy our activities.

We organise a varied programme from September to the start of July which has three main features.

1) Monthly Meetings with a range of guest speakers are on the second Tuesday of the month at Bishop’s Park Community Centre, Lancaster Way, Bishop’s Stortford, CM23 4DA and start at 7.30pm.

2) Visits to Reserves. These usually take place at weekends. In our area we have an excellent variety of outstanding reserves to visit and our programme aims to reflect the range of habitats and species. Our aim is to visit the more local of these and if possible those with facilities. Some of these visits may be guided by an expert but if this is not the case we have many knowledgeable birders who are happy to share their knowledge.  

3) Short, sociable, local bird walk.  These are weekday  walks of 3 to 4 miles on a variety of days using different starting points. Featuring a variety of habitats they are local to Bishops Stortford. The route is flexible to allow for conditions and participants wishes and ends at a venue for refreshments. These have proved to be a popular post Covid addition to our programme.

Evening meetings held on the second Tuesday of the month, September to July. Doors open at 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start. Stort Valley RSPB Local Group members £3. Visitors £5.00. Annual subscription £12 per year.
