Big Garden Birdwatch 2023

From the RSPB

The countdown is on! Our next Big Garden Birdwatch (BGBW) will take place on Friday 27, Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 January 2023.

We will be asking people across the UK to spend an hour during the last weekend of January watching and recording birds and sending their results to the RSPB, whatever they see. In 2022 nearly 700,000 people took part, and we want to bring more diverse people together to take part in BGBW 2023, with each and every count giving us a valuable insight into how our birds are faring.

We have aligned our look and feel with the new RSPB brand. Our 2023 headline is ‘Together, let’s make it count’, which aims to bring a sense of urgency and collective action to the campaign. We want people to know that by taking part in BGBW, they are taking action for nature. This will also help us to provide a route into Wild Isles – the major new five-part natural history series from Silverback Films for BBC One and iPlayer.

How you can help right now

The resources you ordered via your Local Group Development Officer or Volunteering Development Officer will be sent out to you in the next few days. You can use these at all of your events to encourage your members and supporters to participate in BGBW in January. Phone lines for ordering a pack open on 13th December and it will also be possible to sign up online to participate digitally.

You could also promote BGBW on your websites and social media. In recent years many Local Groups have found that virtual ‘gatherings’ over the weekend and opportunities for participants to share their sightings as they happened were very popular and gave a sense of community for those doing it from home.
