Seaton Sluice

Seaton Sluice is at the mouth of Seaton Burn. From this area, there are several places to explore.

What birds can be seen here?

The first area to explore is the headland, accessed by walking over the little bridge. Sea watching, you could see auks, sea ducks, divers, terns, Fulmars, Gannets and Kittiwakes. On windy days skuas and shearwaters may be seen flying north and south. When the tide is out there will be a good selection of waders on the rocks and beach for example, Knot, Oystercatcher, Turnstone and Redshank. Walking along the dunes to the north, there will be a good selection of birds such as Stonechats, Skylarks and Meadow Pipits. Heading back to the west, There is a very pleasant walk in the Holywell Dene, along a path following the Seaton Burn upstream, with plenty of scope for more birds, including tits, finches, and sparrows, you may even be lucky and see a kingfisher.

What other wildlife could be spotted?

Looking out to sea, you will sometimes see Grey Seals, and even Dolphins swimming by.
