Hogganfield – Sunday 10th December

Only 5 people attended Hogganfield on our December Outing. The forecast wasn’t great which might have put people off, but we were dry on the way round, and the rain only started as we headed back to the car park.

We walked round the Loch and also took in the loop round the Marsh area. Species spotted included goldeneye, goosander, cormorant, lots of coot, with 4 different gull species present (herring, common, black headed and lesser black back). There was also a mistle thrush, plus a lovely group of redwings and fieldfare. We spotted 4 greenfinch which apparently was a record number for the area. Unfortunately there were no whooper swans present – Glasgow City Council have stopped feeding due to various reasons which may have been an factor.

31 species was a good count considering we were only there for a few hours, and the limited numbers attending.
