Please note - RSPB Local Groups are not RSPB staff.
We are RSPB Members and some of us volunteer to run the Glasgow Local Group.
This website is about and for anyone interested in the RSPB based in and around Glasgow.
(Please bear with us if our website isn’t quite up to date, we are volunteers after all. Thanks for your patience.)
Any queries other than Glasgow Local Group activities should be directed to the RSPB in the first instance.
If you have a sick or injured bird please contact the SSPCA or Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue Centre as the RSPB doesn’t have the facilites to treat these birds.

What do we do?
We hold a series of talks between September and April, some face to face, some by Zoom (a legacy from Covid that we have retained due to the popularity during the winter months).
The subject matter is quite diverse – from RSPB Reserve and policy updates, to species research, to locations in the UK and overseas, birds or otherwise.
Face to face Indoor Meetings are held in Glasgow (see next meeting link for new venue), and all are welcome. The format is normally: Introduction, Speaker part 1, Interval with Group Announcements plus tea & biscuits, Speaker part 2, Questions. They are great for socialising with other Members and chatting to the speaker if so inclined.
Zoom Meetings are currently only open to paid up Group Members (this saves us the complexity of charging fees for now). The format is similar, the speakers often delivering their whole talk letting us conclude with Group business following questions. The talk being delivered to your computer/tablet/phone allows you the advantage of watching in the comfort of your own home, with all the attendant luxuries, and no travel in poor weather during the winter. The minor downside is the socialising aspect can be a bit more tricky during a zoom chat.

Part of a Local Group’s Raison D’être is to fundraise for RSPB projects. The Glasgow Group hold annual Plant Sales, Quizzes most years, and a bi-annual Bird Race. We undertake other forms of fundraising such as the 50th Anniversary Calendar and Glasgow Kiltwalk participation in 2023.
