Did You Know...?

Glasgow has long been known as the ‘Dear Green Place’ – that’s actually the literal translation of its name from the Gaelic, and the city has a proud history of creating and protecting parks and greenspaces. Glaswegians are justifiably proud of their parks and are passionate and vocal about protecting them. Hogganfield Park LNR is just one of over 90 parks and gardens within the city.

Hogganfield Loch/Park is special in that this former boating pond has been turned, by dint of sterling work and effort by Glasgow Parks Dept, organisations like Glasgow Local Group, and members of the public, into one of the best urban places to see wild birds in the Central Belt, if not in Scotland. The highlight for many being the wild whooper swans that overwinter every year from Iceland, delighting birdwatchers and photographers alike.

Over 150* species have been recorded at this 48hectare (119acre) site, which forms part of the greater Seven Lochs Wetland Park, the largest urban nature park in Scotland.
