Talk – “The Somerset Levels and Moors” on Wednesday 18th November 2026

Please join us for the talk “The Somerset Levels and Moors” presented by Peter Exley on Wednesday 18th November 2026 at 7:30pm.

Based on the tours Peter Exley leads and 25 years working on the Somerset Levels, this talk explores the history of England’s largest wetland, from the end of the last Ice Age up to the recent floods, and covers the creation of the RSPB’s nature reserves and return of bitterns, marsh harriers and cranes. While working for the RSPB, Peter led their communications and community work in the county, including helping set up RSPB Greylake, representing RSPB on the Avalon Marshes Partnership, helping bring the final eggs back from Germany for the Great Crane Project, and dealing with the PR during the catastrophic 2014 floods.

The talk will be held at St Thomas Church Hall, Church Road, Exeter EX2 9BQ.

Entrance: Local group members £5.00 and non-members £7.00.
