Trip to Hilbre Island

Free to all

Another favourite of the Group, the trip to Hilbre is always a well attended event. At this time of the year sea passage is in full swing with terns passing the island on their migration south. Following the terns come the skuas, with Arctic Skua the most regularly seen but both Great and Pomarine Skua have been seen on previous visits. Gannets and shearwaters also pass, in good numbers if the weather conditions are right. The island is also a magnet for small migrants, with common and rare passerines turning up on the island. It is the sort of place were you expect the unexpected !! Bring your own food and drink. The island is exposed to the elements, so please wrap up to keep warm and dry. Wellington boots are a must. We leave for the island at 8am prompt and overstay the tide, so we are on the island for about 6 hours .

## Please note that this trip is subject to the Local Council opening the toilets on the island ##

Booking with the Group is essential for the trip either by ringing 07769673018 or emailing wirralrspblocalgroup@gmail.com. Please note that the trip to the island involves a walk across sand for several miles and also across some wet (and potentially slippery) rocks.
