Rye Harbour Nature Reserve March 2024

Here’s the latest from fantastic Rye Harbour.

March 2024
Rare eagle causes a stir

Last month, we were treated to a White-tailed Sea Eagle soaring over the nature reserve heading in the direction of Dungeness. As Britain’s largest bird of prey, with a wingspan of over 8ft, it’s easy to see why they’ve earned their nickname of ‘flying barn doors’. Unfortunately, it had been and gone before any of us were able to grab a camera!
Discover our new activity trails   If you’re heading to the nature reserve and would like a bit of inspiration on how to fill your day, then you’re in luck. We’ve just introduced a selection of activity trails which are jam-packed with ideas on what to see. There are ten to choose from and each one offers something a bit different. You can either download one to your mobile phone or pick up a copy from the Discovery Centre. Download a trail Half-term fun for over 170 children Our Communities and Wildlife Team had a busy half-term, welcoming 100 families to the nature reserve. Over 170 children enjoyed an action-packed week of events offering children the chance to get up close to nature and create something to help look after wildlife at home. Lucy Bowyer, Senior Communities & Wildlife Officer, tells us a bit more about what they got up to. February fun
