Trip Report: Cliffe Pools RSPB Reserve

Weather: Mainly sunny, mild (despite cloudy forecast)

A very pleasant day to be at Cliffe. We covered the two central paths between the lagoons, stopping for lunch at the Thames viewpoint where there is a bench. Later we visited the Eternal Lake nature reserve, not far from the entrance to the RSPB reserve where there is a cafe, shop and toilets. Red-breasted Merganser had been reported there but we didn’t find one.

Highlights were excellent views of two Greenshank and large flocks of Lapwing in flight. Very large numbers of Shoveler and Wigeon too. Here’s the list, 54 in all:
