June 2026 walk around Dinefwr Park
After an unsettled couple of weeks the weather was pleasantly bright, warm and still when the group of 12 met up at the car park of Dinefwr Park. The Park has rolling fields, a large Country house and more importantly for bird watching, an established woodland of large mature trees with many left where they had fallen.
On leaving the car park the group were rewarded with a close-up view of three Spotted Flycatchers along with house sparrow, swallow, starling, blackbird and bullfinch with a view of the large country house behind (see photo).
The group walked through the woodland above the House to the Mill Pond then through the Bogwood and up to Dinefwr Castle before returning to the Car Park.
Species seen were Blackbird, Blackcap, Blue Tit, Bullfinch, Buzzard, Carrion Crow, Chaffinch, Chiffchaff, Coal Tit, Coot, Dunnock, Great Tit, Greater Spotted Woodpecker, Grey Heron, Goldfinch, Herring Gull, House Martin, House Sparrow, Jackdaw, Jay, Little Grebe, Mallard, Nuthatch, Red Kite, Robin, Spotted Flycatcher, Song Thrush, Starling, Swallow, Swift, Treecreeper, Willow Warbler, Wood Pigeon and Wren, making 34 species in all.
