Goyt Valley evening walk 18 July

On this trip we will meet at the Errwood Hall car park at 7:30 pm. The Grid ref is SK0121 7483, and the nearest postcode is SK17 6GJ – but note that this postcode covers a large area around both sides of the lake.

We will be walking up the road and through the forest hoping to find Pied and Spotted
Flycatchers, Redstart, Nightjar and Woodcock along with many other woodland species.
The Woodcock tend to have a ‘Roding’ flight at dusk which will be towards the end of our visit.
Anyone wishing to stay a little later as night falls may be lucky enough to hear the
Nightjars churring but they are incredibly difficult to see. We will also bring along a bat
detector and see which types we can identify from their call frequencies.

Typically, we would expect to be in the area from 7.30 pm until 10 pm but it’s not a problem
for you to leave earlier or stay on a little later to try to hear or see Nightjars. There are
no toilet facilities on site.
