There are always a lot of water birds on the pools to the left of the Reddish Vale Country Park visitor centre, including grebes, cormorants, herons and a few varieties of duck (and the inevitable Canada Geese). But patience is often rewarded with the sight of a Kingfisher over the far side of the pool, there are plenty of woodland birds in the trees behind the centre, with Nuthatches often coming to the feeders and warblers in summer. There is often a Grey Wagtail on the river, Sand Martins nest in the sandbanks beyond the railway viaduct, and a Kestrel sometimes lurks there under the arches.
