Avon Cottage, whose origins are in the 16th century, is set in two acres of wonderful gardens overlooking working water meadows alongside a chalk stream carrier of the River Avon. It’s taken Sheila and Trevor Shepherd since 1978 to bring their garden to its present beautiful condition.

Just stroll through the gardens and find a quiet place to sit and enjoy the delicious refreshments on offer! Wonderful preserves and produce will be on sale. We’ll be serving cakes and scones with hot or cold drinks. There are numerous seats and tables in the garden, and a toilet!

The garden and surroundings have an abundance of birdlife and we’ll be hoping to see kingfisher, summer migrants and soaring raptors especially from the more remote parts of the garden. Spotted flycatchers, swallows and house martins have nested in the garden in recent years.

The cottage is opposite the Wheatsheaf pub in Lower Woodford.

Parking is in the field adjacent to the cottage as signposted, with Disabled Only parking on the gravel drive of the cottage.
