Martin Mere Wetland Centre has wide-open spaces and wetlands full of the sights and sounds of nature.   A large reserve managed by the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and located a few miles inland from Southport.   There is a captive wildfowl collection, including flamingo and a large mere with several hides dotted around it.   With things to keep the children amused this is an ideal site for a family visit.

Numerous and spacious hides provide excellent views over the main mere.

PLEASE NOTE:  Martin Mere has now re-opened following its temporary closure occasioned by an outbreak of avian influenza.

Best time to visit:
The winter months are superb for swan and over wintering geese
