Local wild places

The South East Herts Local Group is fortunate in having the only RSPB reserve in the county, Rye Meads, in our area together with The Lee Valley Park which has several good birdwatching sites. The Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust also has 2 reserves, Amwell and Kings Meads situated within our patch.

Further south down the Lee valley is the Wathamstow Wetlands reserve which is the largest urban wetland in Europe. All of the sites are primarily wetlands containing flooded gravel pits and marshy areas but also have wooded areas and close by farmland. Click on each location for full details, how to find it using the accompanying Google map, links to their own websites if there is one, and for photographs. We hope to add more sites over time to the current modest list.
