Wakering, Footpath from Cupid’s Corner to Seawall and Back 19:30 to 20:50
1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Kestrel, 1 Great Tit, 1 Robin, 1 Song Thrush, 1 Blackbird, 1 Reed Warbler, 1 Blackcap, 1 Whitethroat, 1 Dunnock, 2 Pheasant, several Magpie, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Wren, 2 Turtle Dove, one purring as it progressed from the second footbridge down to the seawall, finally showing well on a pole near seawall at 7.50pm, then at 8.45pm one purring by the military road at Cupid’s Corner. multiple Marbled White butterfly and Meadow Browns. Thundersley Glen and Shipwrights Wood included prior to HCP: 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker (heard, TG), 1 Green Woodpecker (plus 3 heard, TG and SW), several Jackdaw, 2 Willow Warbler (including 1 juvenile) from Shipwright’s Close path onto HCP, 3 Jay (first in TG), 2 Chiffchaff (heard), several Swift at intervals, 1 Blackcap (others heard), 2 Chaffinch (heard), 1 Song Thrush (heard), 18 Little Egret, 3 Cuckoo (first heard far south from Shipwright’s Close path, second (m) north-south across railway (12:47), third (f) east-west off dyke, nearing Leigh-on-Sea (15:17)), 1 Cetti’s Warbler (heard), 1 Buzzard harassed by Crow, 8 Whitethroat, 6 Goldfinch, 1 Sparrowhawk (f), 1 Greenfinch (heard), 15 Skylark, 3 pair Linnet, 10 Reed Warbler, 3 Shelduck (pair on dyke, single across), 9 Reed Bunting (8m, 1f), 1 Pochard (m) in flight along dyke, 1 Sedge Warbler (heard), 3 Oystercatcher (pair over, 1 nearing Leigh-on-Sea), 1 Little Grebe on dyke, 4 Swallow, numerous Black-headed Gull, several Herring Gull high (sub-adult).
