1 Long-tailed Duck (seen twice, but presume it was the same bird. First time it was about halfway along the pier on the western side sitting in the water. About forty minutes later it flew around the pier head and away in a north-easterly direction towards Thorpe Bay). 2 Guillemot. Usual collection of Gulls, Turnstone, Grebe and Cormorant. 2 Mute Swan (two juveniles to the east of pier about half a mile out. They took off into a considerable headwind and after finally managing to pick up speed crossed the pier and headed off in the direction of Westcliff Casino), 2 Carrion Crow, Approx. 150 Turnstone (in the usual spot on the ramp towards the end of the pier). 5 Mediterranean Gull, 1 Razorbill, 20+ Great Crested Grebe (at least three fishing around the pier, with two small flocks passing upriver), 1 Shag, 1 White Billed Diver. 3+ Grey Seals.
