‘Pitcairn Islands & French Polynesia’ by John Clark – Saturday 20/04/2024

John is a local Hampshire man and passionate birder from an early age. He is an author and former County Recorder. Tonight, we join John on an expedition he took in 2019, five weeks sailing and flying across the Pacific Ocean and around French Polynesia.

Home to the descendants of the Mutiny on the Bounty, the Pitcairn Islands include the uninhabited coral atolls of both Henderson and Oeno Islands. The Marquesas Islands are a group of volcanic islands in French Polynesia, an overseas collectivity of France in the southern Pacific Ocean.

Ultimately, after more sailing and flights to other islands, the tour ends in the Cook Islands before returning home through Auckland, New Zealand.

This talk will feature photographs of most of the 70 endemic land and seabirds seen during the trip.

A real treat! Please come and enjoy it before the summer break!

The talk is free to join for RSPB North East Hants Local Group Members.

Non Members of the group are most welcome to attend for a suggested donation of £3.00 per person.

The meeting starts at 7.30 pm and is being held at the Memorial Hall, Sandy Lane, Church Crookham, GU52 8LD. Please arrive a few minutes before this so that the talk can begin on time. You will also have an opportunity to purchase raffle tickets and check out our regular fundraising tables selling a selection of books, DVD’s, jigsaw puzzles and hand crafted greetings cards.

Teas & Coffees will be available during the interval.
