The Local Group’s second visit to the centre will hopefully coincide with a variety of wildfowl in fine dress. Heron’s, egrets and a few waders should also be present. Small birds including Goldcrest, Cettis Warbler and Firecrest are quite often seen at this time of year. Birds of Prey meanwhile, are often seen flying over the Offham Hanger. Keep your eyes peeled for Common Buzzard, Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and Peregrine whilst in the car park or walking around the wetlands.
We will hope to see both Marsh Harriers and Cattle Egrets flying in to roost on the Reserve just before dark. If we are really fortunate, a Hen Harrier may also join the roost as in recent years. It is a long time since one of these has been seen on a field trip, so keep those fingers crossed.
