We have a new group website
At short notice, we had to move to a new website at the end of May 2022!
We thought we would have some months to set up our new NE London website on a new, modern software platform but unfortunately problems with the old software meant that the old Local Group websites had to be withdrawn.
We were able to set up the basic layout on the new website and have been adding events etc. dating from the switchover.
We have been able to preserve some of our past information from our launch as the new North East London Local Group in November 2008 and hope to add past information, reports etc. retrospectively.
All our past programmes from the launch of the North East London Local Group in November 2008 can be viewed or downloaded under Past Programmes in the Blog section.
Getting used to the new layout
The navigation bar along the top of the page has changed. There are no longer direct links to ‘Events’ or ‘Trip Reports’. Our next talk and next walk can be found on the ‘Home’ and ‘Get involved’ pages. Our trip reports can be found either by using the ‘Trip reports’ button at the bottom of the ‘Home’ page or by selecting the blog category ‘Trip reports’ in the ‘News & Blogs’ section. The ‘News & Blogs’ section of the site is where to find all our latest news and blog entries, although the latest 4 can also be found on the ‘Home’ page.
There are handy buttons to filter by category both News (e.g. ‘Programmes’, ‘Talks’ and ‘Walks’) and Blogs (e.g. ‘Newsletters’, ‘Past Programmes’, ‘Past talks’, ‘Trip reports’). To access these buttons, go to the ‘News & Blogs’ page and select ‘See all news’ or ‘See all blogs’.
‘Places to see birds’ has become ‘Local wild places’. This is currently just a list of what was on the old website but now has a map to select the places (or you can scroll down them).
New Features
Urgent news, such as a change to an event, will be communicated via a site wide announcement which appears at the top of every page. Currently it is about the new website.
We will be able to upload multiple photos alongside our news, events and trip reports, rather than just one!
There is a site wide search so you could try this if you can’t find something – use the magnifying glass icon near the top of a page.
There are now prominent links to our Facebook page and our Twitter account in the top right corner of the website and at the bottom of nearly every page (little ‘f’ icon and ‘blue bird’ icon). If you follow the links, our social media pages provide extra content such as photos and videos and updates from like-minded organisations or individuals that may not make it to the website! Just follow us to keep up to date.
That should hopefully get you started.
