The initial drive down the track to the car park produced a number of expected species, Marsh Harrier, Meadow Pipit, Greylag and Canada Geese, but a couple of bonuses, with a Water Rail seen at Gate 4, and Egyptian Geese near the entrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we set off from the car park the weather was sunny, was the weather forecast going to be wrong? Well unfortunately no. By the time we got to the old schoolhouse the drizzle had started. No Little Owls to see. We carried on to the Swale, with the weather getting worse. Again, some of the expected species but neither of our target birds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, we now headed back to the car park past the reed beds looking very brown and dried out after this year\u2019s drought. Not sure how the Bearded Tits have managed this year, certainly none were making an appearance today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By the time we arrived back to the car park we were all wet, although this did give us an opportunity to discuss the weatherproof quality of our clothing. Mountain Warehouse may be expensive, but it does seem to give a degree of protection even in British drizzle. Perhaps if the Hen Harriers had gone to Mountain Warehouse, they may have been more inclined to make a showing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was decided that lunch would be consumed in our cars before setting off for home. Maybe, somewhat surprisingly, the group saw 37 species, Elmley is very productive from this point of view. Hopefully the Short-eared Owls will be here in numbers later this year. Iceland is currently having extremely bad weather, and this is supposed to spread further east, so we may be seeing a number of rarities this year, and larger numbers of winter migrants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the weather I think all of us enjoyed the walk and I would like to thank all the attendees.
