Loch Ruthven is home to the rare UK breeding bird the Slavonian grebe. In the UK they only breed around Inverness, so Loch Ruthven is very special. Osprey are also often seen during the summer, as well as other wildfowl and some upland waders (like curlew). There is a short walk to the bird hide overlooking the loch. We have previously visited this fabulous reserve with the group in the summer to try to catch a glimpse of the rare grebes.

Best time to visit:
April to July for Slavonian grebes
