About Highland Local Group

The RSPB Highland Local Group was formed in 1987 to support the work of the RSPB in the Highlands. We have 70+ members. We run one Saturday field trip per month between October and May, plus the occasional Thursday trip. Indoor meetings are held on the last Thursday of the month from September to April. See our Programme page (under ‘News & Blogs’ tab) for more details.

Several of our members volunteer as wardens at Loch Ruthven, home of the Slavonian grebe, and Tollie Red kites in Ross-shire. Other members volunteer for general work parties and web counts.

Our booklet ‘The Top 52 Birdwatching Sites in the Highlands’ has raised more than £10,000.

As a group, we enjoy showing new members the best birdwatching spots in the Highlands, and  providing an interesting and informative indoor programme. We are a friendly and informal group of people who give everyone a warm welcome, novice and expert alike.
