Cliffe Pools RSPB

Meet in the car park off Salt Lane, ME3 7SU. With a high tide due during our visit we expect to find wintering ducks, waders and possible raptors. Leaders: Maria & Paul.

FEBRUARY

Saturday 3 February 10am – 4pm

Foreness point (WC at Botany Bay)

Meet opposite Palm Bay Primary school, CT9 3PP, parking along Palm Bay Avenue. We will walk along the cliff top looking for purple sandpipers and other waders and sea-watching for possible divers, grebes and gannet. Leader: tba.

Sunday 18 February 10am – 4pm

Sevenoaks wildlife reserve KWT (WC)

Meet in the car park, TN13 3DH. Possible kingfisher, siskin, redpoll, snipe, water rail and maybe herons on the nest. Leader: Andy Forbes.

Dungeness Lighthouse & RSPB (WC)

Meet at the lighthouse car park, TN29 9NA, for a visit to the beach and observatory. Later to the RSPB reserve, TN29 9PN, for water birds and early spring migrants. Leaders: Irene & Terry.

Saturday 23 March 10am – 4pm

Elmley NNR (WC)

Meet at reserve car park ME12 3RW. Wildfowl, raptors, waders and hares in the fields. Note there is an entry fee and numbers may be limited. Leader: Sue.

Grain Coastal park

Northward Hill RSPB (WC)

Meet at Bromhey Farm car park ME3 8DS.Nightingales, whitethroats, cuckoos, blackcaps and (hopefully) much more! Leaders: Maria & Paul.

Saturday 25 May 10am – 4pm

Fingringhoe Wick EWT (WC)

Meet in the reserve car park, CO5 7DN. This lovely Essex reserve is situated on the River Colne where we hope to find nightingales, whitethroats & blackcaps as well as waterfowl and waders and maybe turtle dove. Leader: Andy Forbes.

Tuesday 28 May 10am – 1pm

Sevenoaks wildlife reserve KWT (WC)

Meet in the car park, TN13 3DH. A spring visit with breeding birds, butterflies, dragonflies and flowers to see. Leaders: Sally & Malcolm.

Conyer Creek followed by Oare Marshes

Park along the road near the Ship Inn, ME9 9HL. Afterwards we will continue to the Oare Marshes KWT car park ME13 0QA. Waders roosting on the islands and small birds in the reed bed. Leaders: Hazel & Steve.

Saturday 22 June 10am – 4pm

Rye Harbour NNR (WC)

Meet in the car park TN31 7TY (TQ942189). Common, Little & Sandwich terns breed here and will be feeding young. Gulls, including Mediterranean gulls, right in front of the hides. Leaders: Mandy and Neil

Tuesday 25 June 10am – 1pm

Leybourne Lakes country park (WC)

Meet in the car park ME6 5ST (TQ697603). Leaders: Sally & Malcolm.

Ashdown Forest

Meet in the car park opposite Old Lodge reserve on the B2026 (TQ470305) TN22 3JD. Common redstart, woodlark, tree pipit, hobby & spotted flycatcher! More details at www.sussexwildlifetrust.org.uk/visit/old-lodge. Leaders: Sandra & Norman.

Saturday 20 July 10am – 4pm

Stodmarsh NNR (WC)

Meet in Stodmarsh car park, CT3 4BB. Bird song in the reed beds with hobbies, harriers & hirundines overhead. Listen out for water rail and look for signs of beaver activity! Leaders: Karen and Pete.

Tuesday 23 July 10am – 1pm

Lullingstone Country Park (WC)

Meet in the car park, DA4 0JF. Yellowhammers, Dark-green fritillary butterflies, banded demoiselles and maybe grey wagtails on the river. Leaders: Sally & Malcolm.

Oare Marshes KWT

Meet in the car park at the end of Church Road, ME13 0QA. Early returning waders on the scrape. Reed buntings, bearded tits and warblers in the reed beds. Leaders: Sue

Friday 16 August 6pm – approx. 9pm DUSK VISIT

Cliffe Pools RSPB

Meet outside the car park off Salt Lane, ME3 7SX. Passage waders, such as whimbrel and sandpipers, with gulls and terns. Insect repellent recommended. Leaders: Paul & Maria.

Tuesday 27 August 10am – 1pm

Cliffe Pools RSPB

A day time repeat visit, this time please meet inside the RSPB car park off Salt Lane, ME3 7SX. Passage waders, such as whimbrel and sandpipers, with gulls and terns. Leaders: Sally & Malcolm.

Saturday 31 August 10am – 4pm

Sandwich Bay KOS (WC)

Meet at Sandwich Bay Observatory, CT13 9PF. There is a small fee to enter the Sandwich Estate taken at the tollgate as you drive in.

Bockhill Farm NT & South Foreland valley (WC)

Meet at the Dover Patrol Memorial car park at CT15 6DF. Afterwards we will go on to visit the South Foreland Valley near the lighthouse, CT15 6HP. Hoping to find choughs, fulmar, peregrine and black redstart, and possible passage migrants. Leaders: tba.

Shellness & Capel fleet

Meet at the sea wall at Leysdown to walk to Shellness to see the wader roost ME12 4RJ. Afterwards we will go to the RSPB Capel Fleet raptor watchpoint ME12 4BA Leaders: Sandra & Norman.
