February 2024 Outdoor Meeting Report

Outing to Moor Loch and Peppermill Dam, Devilla Forest.

Saturday 17th February 2024.

5 group members met for a walk from Kincardine to the Moor Loch and Peppermill Dam, in the Devilla Forest.  We were fortunate with the weather, which was mild and fairly calm, with the rain only starting just as we got back to the car.

The ‘bird highlights’ of the walk were a Jay and a Common Crossbill, with a range of other woodland birds, including a Treecreeper, Wren, Song Thrush, Blackbirds, Robins, Chaffinches, Blue Tits, Coal Tits, Great Tits, Wood Pigeons and Magpies.

On the Moor Loch, we saw Great Crested Gebe, Little Grebe, Goldeneye, Wigeon, Teal, Mallard, Cormorants, Coots and Mute Swans.  On the Peppermill Dam there were Goosanders, a Heron and Greylag and Canada Geese.  A skein of Pink Footed Geese flew over, while we were having lunch.
