April 2024 Indoor Meeting Report

The RSPB Forth Valley Group meeting on Thursday 18th April featured a talk by John Silvey from RSPB Kites, on ‘Beaver Releases on Lock Lomond’.

The presentation included background information on beavers and their habits and the impacts they can have on their surroundings, including felling trees to construct lodges and dams. Two beavers were relocated from the Five Sisters Zoo (West Calder) to a section of the RSPB reserve at Loch Lomond, which had been identified as being suitable for beavers.  However, after release they immediately moved down stream and set up home on the Endrick Water.  A further pair of beavers were released on the site, and appear to have established a home there.
