Duddingston Loch
This loch is part of Holyrood Park with reedbeds and some surrounding woodland. There is a large heronry that can be viewed from the upper road and a Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve on the south side, access to the reserve requires a key.
It is particularly worth visiting this site in the Winter and Spring. Regular species include various wintering Wildfowl, Heron and Great-crested Grebe. Also occasional Kingfishers, and even Bittern! Otters are regularly seen. Great views of the Loch can be seen from Dr Neil’s Garden.
Parking at Duddingston Kirk car park. Bus 12 from Lothian Road with a short walk through the village.
