Black Down 26th May

Six birders enjoyed a nice walk at Black Down NT, the highest point of the South Downs. It was breezy but dry, and some nice birds were enjoyed despite the wind keeping many small birds hunkered down, and preventing some target birds showing themselves. Woodlarks were very cooperative with at least 4-5 recorded, 3 Crossbills were scoped including a nice male, and 4 singing Willow Warblers was a nice count for modern day West Sussex! Other good birds included Coal Tit, Stonechat, Goldcrest and Raven. On the way home a few people recorded Honey Buzzard and Turtle Dove at Woolbeding Common.
