Get involved

The RSPB Central London Local Group’s core activities are a programme of monthly online talks, guided birdwatching walks in and around London, and coach trips to nature reserves. We also occasionally hold outdoor talks at interesting locations and in-person indoor talks.

  • Our Zoom meetings are usually on a Tuesday at 8pm and bring you a variety of professional speakers who give illustrated talks on a wide range of subjects relating to birds, other wildlife, conservation and general natural history.
  • Our birdwatching walks in and around London give you the opportunity to learn about birds, other wildlife and habitats from friendly experienced guides, and are a relaxed and sociable way for you to meet like-minded people.
  • Our coach day-trips depart from near the riverside entrance of Embankment Underground station and will take you to places you might not otherwise get to see or be able to reach easily by public transport, giving you the chance to gain knowledge and spot more birds as well as enjoy time in nature and beautiful landscapes.

Volunteer with us

There are lots of ways for you to play an active role in our group, whether you want to use your skills and time to do something for nature or are looking for experience to help towards a career. You will receive support from our committee to help you do your role, especially when you are starting out. We regularly have interesting new opportunities so do keep an eye on this page. At present we are seeking:

Minutes secretary: This is a key role in our friendly group, taking minutes at the online monthly committee meetings and at our AGM, and sending agendas prior to meetings and actions following meetings. Our minutes are brief and concise so this is not an arduous role, but you will be making a valuable contribution to the running of our group.

Local walk organisers and leaders: we are always keen to hear from people to lead and/or organise a walk in or near London. You don’t need to be an expert on birds, just have a suggestion for a location, whether it is your local park or farther afield. If you are not confident about leading the walk yourself, we will endeavour to provide an experienced walk leader if you organise the event.

If you are interested in any of these roles please email
