17/10/23 Talk – Wild Isles with producer/director Nick Gates

Come along to hear behind-the-camera stories about the filming of the iconic Wild Isles, with a particular slant on the Bristol area.

We’re excited to announce that producer, director, naturalist and writer Nick Gates will be joining us in October to take us behind the scenes of Wild Isles.

Nick is a naturalist, producer and writer, until recently living in Bristol and now residing in the Mendip Hills. Whilst living in Bristol, he turned his garden into an urban wildlife reserve to prove that small spaces can be great places to inspire people about nature.

With Benedict McDonald, he is the co-author of Orchard – A year in England’s Eden – a ‘wonderful book (that) weaves together fascinating stories of the wildlife that lives in an old organic orchard ‘

He has a passion for conservation and rewilding (it isn’t just about wolves!), and loves to travel to find new stories that inspire people to care for the natural world. It’s this passion that led to Nick being one of the directors for the recent BBC-aired Wild Isles.

In a fascinating and engaging talk, Nick will take us behind the scenes of filming this iconic series, picking out action from our local areas to really bring it to life.

This talk will be taking place in the Coutts lecture theatre, room 3:31 on the third floor of the University of Bristol’s Wills Memorial Building, starting at 7pm. Doors will be open at 6:45pm. At the end of the talk, Nick will be answering your questions.

Tickets are available here at a cost of £5. These fees go directly to the RSPB Bristol Local Group, helping us to cover costs and put on further events in the future. Please bring your own water, as food and hot drinks are not allowed in the lecture theatre.
