Amongst the bright lights of the Palace pier can be seen one of Nature’s Wonders.

Between the months of November – February thousands of starling can be seen gathering to perform their wonderful Murmuration.

By standing anywhere along the promenade, between the two piers at around dusk (approx. 3pm) you can see small groups of starlings gathering to form one large flock which swirl and dive forming amazing shapes in the sky.

A truly wonderful sight!

The display is never guaranteed, and can vary in its enormity.

Sometimes the birds will just fly in and disappear under the Palace Pier, sometimes you may see a minor display, but sometimes thousands of birds fly around for quite a long period.

If Europe is experiencing a harsh winter this can often increase bird numbers as our ‘British’ starlings can be be joined by migratory ‘European’ starlings.

Best time to visit:
November - February at around dusk.
