Arlington Reservoir.

Arlington Reservoir lies to the south of the village, along the course of the Cuckmere River and to the north of the Eastbourne to Lewes railway line.  Covering some 245 acres, the Reservoir provides water to neighbouring towns and villages and is also a nature reserve. There is a small area of reeds, woodland, and grassland surrounding the reservoir making it interesting for an array of wildlife.

 What birds can be seen here?

It is a popular spot for ‘twitchers’ who can view over 170 species of birds – including herons, kingfishers, woodpeckers, reed warblers and even Ospreys – from the bird hide.

There is a selection of ducks and geese, and the fresh water can attract a large numbers of gulls. The reservoir edges are good for Grey, Yellow (Summer) and Pied Wagtail.

In the summer the lay-by opposite the car park is good for Nightingale!

How to get here.

By car

From A22 head southeast at Lower Dicker on Coldharbour Road through Upper Dicker, towards Berwick. Arlington Reservoir will be on your left.

From A27 head north on station road at the Drusilla’s zoo roundabout. Arlington reservoir will be on your right.

By train

Berwick Station.(Brighton – Hastings line) From the station, walk northeast on Station road for approx 0.6 miles then turn right into car park.

By bus

Circular walk approx. 2.7 miles on fairly flat ground.
