Open day at Abernethy Reserve

Saturday, 1 October 2016

Over fifty local residents came to Forest Lodge on a cool but sunny afternoon early in October, some of whom arrived on foot or by bicycle. The meeting room at Forest Lodge was warmed by a roaring log fire and the presence of people chatting with each other, FAB volunteers and with staff. Meanwhile, with a team of volunteers manning the kitchen a plentiful supply of hot tea and coffee, along with home baking completes the scene. Staff members Alison Greggans, Jeremy Roberts and Ian Perks had an opportunity to talk informally with visitors. Jeremy and Ian led a group of 25 out on the people trailer and Landrover to the forest edge and answered hosts of interesting questions. Recently retired, Desmond Dugan accompanied groups to the tree nursery whilst volunteers Kate and Alan Fowler talked with visitors about the WWII wall drawings. Alison Greggans inspired a group with a fascinating discussion on lichens.
